Finn Riggins Stops in at The Modern Hotel

Boise’s Finn Riggins has been touring the U.S. relentlessly in support of its debut full length A SOLDIER, A SAINT, AN OCEAN EXPLORER released Nov. 13th 2007 on Portland-based indie record label Tender Loving Empire. In 2008 alone, Finn Riggins played over 200 shows in 35 different states, including appearances at esteemed festivals like the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, and Music Fest Northwest in Portland, OR. They’ve made a name for themselves as road warriors brandishing a fresh take on NW indie rock and helping to further push Idaho on to the national independent music scene. Finn Riggins will be releasing a new full length album called VS WILDERNESS on Tender Loving Empire on Oct. 13th, 2009 with a full tour of the Western States this fall and the a full US Tour in the spring to follow.

At this appearance at the Modern Hotel on August 22nd, they will be joined by recent Pueblo, CO transplants Sleepy Seeds with their psychedelic indie pop.

Besides Daniel at the Modern Hotel June 17

Besides Daniel is an indie-folk band from Atlanta. Aiming to inspire beauty, truth, and creativity, Besides Daniel writes songs about love, faith, daydreams, and adventure. These songs may reflect the musical influences of Bob Dylan, Iron & Wine, Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens and Conor Oberst.

The members of Besides Daniel are singer-songwriter Danny Brewer (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Susanne O’Day (vocals, keys, glockenspiel, melodica).

‘I am the Fall, You are the Spring,’ the most recent album, was released independently by Besides Daniel in 2007. The album offers a humble blend of acoustic instruments held together by a raw, earnest voice evoking feelings of both hope and reflection.

Besides Daniel is currently recording a 5 track EP, “the clay, the seed, the stone”, that will be released in May 2009 and will be followed by a West Coast Tour.

Last summer, Nick Jaina and his band (Portland) strolled through Idaho, playing the Modern Hotel and Bar multiple times. The band’s street style performance and seemingly upbeat yet somewhat sinister rhythms, fit right in here at the Modern. With an electric guitar, steel guitar, vibraphone, clarinets, trumpets, an upright bass, violin and precession, Jaina’s band achieves a folksy almost burlesque sound. This April Nick’s band will be back for more, playing in the Modern Bar, April 23rd. So grab a re-fashioned, order a prosciutto and bri panini, sit back and relax all wile listening to one of Portland’s most admired bands.
